At Steelwood Design, our vision is to bring you furniture made with unique materials, expert craftsmanship, and timeless design.
Local designer Alexis Dodd (North Vancouver) is the force behind Steelwood Design. Her goal is to create functional art for the home through sustainable design – reusing, recycling, reclaiming and repurposing. She has a passion for beautiful, unique design and clean, simple lines that convey the essence of the material.
She teams up with her dad, Fred Masaro – “Jack of all trades, MASTER of everything.” He contributes a wealth of knowledge and experience to the construction of a Steelwood piece. Alexis wears his leather apron when welding that he wore working up north at a sawmill over 45 years ago.
The company has evolved since they first came up with idea to find purpose and create beauty out of discarded, unwanted materials, but their values remain the same. Fred was raised to do it yourself and do it right – and has passed on that amazing discipline and drive to his daughter. Together, they have embarked on a thrilling journey of creativity, vision, adventure (check out the salvage missions below!) and a passion for creating unique, long-lasting, well-designed pieces built to be handed down for generations.
Each piece they design and build is an individual with its own story, rich local Vancouver history, and handcrafted by Alexis and Fred. The extraordinary one-of-a-kind pieces are destined to be the focal point of any room. Every one celebrates natural beauty marks like knots, grains and other imperfections, only found in hand crafted art.
When having a child you must always consider how they will completely ruin your retirement….
Ahh, the places Steelwood has taken us…
